Islamic Jurisprudence with Hanafi Evidence: Polygamy

This programme provides a comprehensive and scholarly examination of the Hanafi legal framework concerning polygamy. It focuses on the linguistic and technical definitions within classical texts, integrating primary source evidence from the Holy Qur’an, Hadith, scholarly consensus (Ijma), and legal analogy (Qiyas). Students will explore how the Hanafi school prioritises specific transmissions and legal reasonings over other madhahib, alongside a detailed look at the internal fatwas of the fuqaha. The course explores both the mundane societal protections and the spiritual rewards inherent in these laws, enriched by classical Arabic, Farsi, and Urdu literary citations and poetry.
